Sept. 10, 2004

Dear Prayer Warriors,

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! My Bible reading this morning was in Daniel, and I rejoiced to read that our breath is in God's hands and He owns all our ways (5:23b). Let us continually glorify His mighty Name!

Yesterday I had my pre-op appointments, and all went well, praise the Lord! Also, I thank the Lord for your prayers in regard to the sadness I was feeling. My spirits have been much uplifted since then. Again, praise Him!

Lord willing, the surgery will take place Tuesday, Sept. 14. The surgery is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and will last 5 hours. They will be checking the sentinel lymph nodes, doing a mastectomy, and finish with a tram flap reconstruction. Please pray that one of my surgeons, Dr. Humber, will finish his jury duty in time.

I am at rest in the Lord, waiting to see how He is going to work things out. Again I have that great example from the book of Daniel where Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego trusted in God's power to deliver them from the fiery furnace, but even if He didn't, they would still remain faithful to Him and not bow down to the king's image (3:17,18). Whatever the outcome, my God is worthy of my complete devotion to Him.

There has not been a lot of news from Iquitos as they have had many visitors and commitments and not enough time for email. I had a brief conversation by phone with Dee Donaldson and learned that the special anniversary meetings at Efata went well and that there were a number of decisions. Some of these were older deaf couples, including Jesus and Martha. Martha and I have been praying for Jesus for many years. Please pray that he and the others who made decisions will grow spiritually. Pray, too, for Pastor Abraham and Patsy as they are in Lima finishing up at a Bible conference at the Efata Baptist Church in that city. Pray that they will be encouraged by the Bible teaching and fellowship there.

Some last prayer requests . . . My parents have some surgeries coming up, too. Dad has some basal cell skin cancer removed from a spot under his ear on Sept. 16. Mom has cataract surgery on Sept. 23. Also, my uncle, Gildardo Soriano, went to be with the Lord this week and the funeral is Monday. Please pray for comfort for my Aunt Ethel and cousins at this time.

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer. It means a lot to me. Some of you are going through hard times, too, and I am praying for you. Keep looking up!

Your sister in Christ,
Lynn Porter
