Dear Prayer Warriors,
Thank you for your prayers. The anniversary meetings at Efata Baptist Church and School with missionary Mauricio Rojas were held August 25-27. The best attended meeting was the last one Sunday night when refreshments were served. Between Deaf and hearing, about 100 were present. The other meetings were attended mostly by a smaller group of faithful deaf. Brother Mauricio was especially impressed by the deaf boys from the school. He was very encouraging in seeing the potential in each person he met and telling us how the Lord could work in of us. The sign language of Chile is very different from our sign language, so the preaching had to done through interpreters. There were no public decisions, but we trust the Lord will continue to speak to hearts of those who came out to hear His Word. The father of one of our members indicated to Mauricio that he had made a decision but did not specify. Right now brother Mauricio is finishing up a river trip. He has had a number of opportunities to preach. When he preached to the workers in the camal (meat market) there were eight who made professions of faith. One of his messages at Efata had as its theme evangelism as he encouraged us to reach out to the unsaved deaf with the Gospel. I was especially glad for that message as we are planning a mission trip downriver in January. Please pray that the deaf believers will truly be burdened for the deaf who have never heard the gospel. We have a meeting scheduled for next Thursday night (9/14) to encourage their participation.
Please continue to pray for the deaf school. I’m having an especially hard time trying to teach 5 strong-willed kindergarteners. Please pray for wisdom in teaching them and to be able to show them Christ’s love. They are still unsaved, and need to be born again. The other three teachers at Efata also need your prayers. As you are just getting started in your school year, we are a month into the second half. We need to persevere until the end! This we will do by the grace of God.
I am excited by the prospect coming up soon of seeing my dad. Lord willing, he will be coming for 4 weeks to teach some modules at the Bible institute here in town and in the river Bible institute of Aysana. Lots of people are looking forward to his coming. Please pray for safety for him and for blessing in his ministry. One of his first opportunities will be on 9/16 when he will be speaking to the area pastors on the subject of unity.
May the Lord continue to bless you and use you in His service. Thank you again for your ministry to us in prayer.
Your sister in Christ,
Lynn Porter
