Dear Prayer Warriors,
Greetings from California! Thank you for your prayers. In the past six weeks the Lord has answered with the following:
Two deaf teens went to Mazan with me for the May 1-3 weekend. We ministered to the two deaf children, Pedro and Melicita, and their families. I enjoyed getting to meet some family members and visiting in their homes. Pastor Marcial and his wife Blanca treated us royally, and we had opportunity to share more about how to reach the deaf for Christ and minister to them spiritually. Because the Amazon River was at its highest flood level, there were a lot of fish, and we enjoyed a variety of savory jungle fish meals.
Praise the Lord I was able to finish teaching the Introduction to the Bible and Biblical Geography course at the Bible Institute. One of the highlights of the last class came from a first-year student who dedicated his first term paper to his wife first, and then to me in appreciation for what I had taught him in class. It was like icing on the cake. It is a privilege to have a part in the training of these dedicated men and women. Thank you, Lord!
On May 13 the Lord gave me safe and on-time flights from Iquitos to Lima to San Jose to Los Angeles, where I arrived at 11:55 p.m. It was such a blessing to see my parents’ smiling faces after going through customs. J Pam’s twins, Gloria and Praise, are graduating from high school, and I’ve enjoyed getting to share with them a bit, and visiting with Melody up at Master’s College one weekend.
May 18 was my first appointment with the eye surgeon, and on June 1st she operated on the right eye to replace the lens that had a cataract. Praise the Lord the surgery went well, and the recovery is on schedule. She did find a beginning cataract in the left eye, so I may have to have surgery on it next year.
Please remember to pray for the following requests:
Pray for those who continue to teach at the Bible Institute. The semester ends July 9th. Pray for the choir; it is short on women’s voices, especially soprano. They are scheduled to sing as part of the 61st anniversary of the Bible Institute on June 28.
Pray for the deaf that they will attend church and encourage one another, as I am not there to continue the individual Bible studies with them. Pastor Marcial has requested prayer for someone to take charge of the deaf ministry there in Mazan.
Pray for Betsan Baptist Church as Erica teaches the children’s class, that the kids will keep attending, trust Christ as Savior, and grow spiritually. Erica has been doing a great job and has been a blessing to me this year.
Pray, too, for the rest of my time here in the States, for the doctor visits and tests coming up. I am in my fifth year since completing the treatment for cancer, and I thank the Lord for the good health He has allowed me to have. Also during this time I will be preparing to teach the Life of Christ course at the Bible Institute starting in August. A few of you have asked me to visit, and I am trying to work those in as I am able on the weekends starting later this month.
May the Lord abundantly bless you as you keep your eyes on Him.
Oh what a mighty God we serve!
Your sister in Christ,
Lynn Porter
